A long period of drought has affected northern Italy (with rainfall at -61% in February 2022 compared to previous years). Anomalous and increasingly frequent atmospheric events are leading to the imbalance of our ecosystems. The situation is critical: in the spring season water shortage is a major problem. Observing the plant and animal life of the stunted undergrowth, we note the difficulty of vegetative recovery and amphibious survival. The conservation of the salamander which inhabits our territories and that requires important humidity conditions is threatened by the drastic decrease of aquatic breeding sites.
In the photograph, a specimen of fire salamander cooling off in a small puddle after the meager recent rains.
