Untold Stories
Untold Stories is a photography series documenting the lives of Moroccan women over a 16-day journey. The series captures the subtle yet impactful act of women shielding their faces when faced with the camera, prompting a nuanced exploration of their relationship with visibility.
Untold Stories is a photography series centered around the women of Morocco. Throughout a 16-day journey across the country, the photographer meticulously documented a vast array of locations, individuals, cultures, and vibrant colors. One striking observation was that whenever the lens was aimed, especially if women were present, they instinctively covered their faces. It seemed that Moroccans, in general, might shy away from the camera, but women, in particular, chose to conceal their faces. Out of respect, she continued documenting, refraining from revealing their faces yet capturing their undeniable presence.
Untold Stories serves as a quest to understand and acknowledge the existence of these women residing on the periphery of their own narratives. We remain unfamiliar with who they are and the stories they carry, yet we recognize their silent existence. The series is a testament to their presence, a subtle acknowledgment of their lives lived on the outskirts of visibility. In refraining from exposing their faces, the series aims to evoke a sense of mystery and curiosity, inviting viewers to contemplate the untold narratives concealed behind each veiled countenance.
