DERNA FLOOD
On 10/09/2023, Cyclone Daniel hit the coast of Libya in Cyrenaica causing the Derna-Belad and Abu Mansour dams to collapse, releasing about 30 million cubic meters of water. This new climate event caused the destruction of the city and a death toll ranging from 6,000 to 40,000 city residents.
The issues of social justice and climate change are closely related in this project regarding the natural disaster that occurred in the city of Derna, Libya.
Climate mutation due to pollution perpetrated for years by the most industrialized and wealthy countries especially affects poorer and less industrialized countries with poorer infrastructure.
A prime example is the case of Libya, a state torn apart by civil war in 2011 and still not pacified.

The extent of the Derna disaster in addition to extreme weather events can also be attributed to decades of neglect due first to Muʿammar Gaddafi's regime and later to Chief of Staff Haftar's policy in Cyrenaica.
