photographic project concerning the celebration of Holy Week in a small Sardinian town, Scano di Montiferro

In Scano di Montiferro, a small Sardinian town, the rites of Holy Week are the central and most heartfelt moment
of the entire liturgical year. Across the week the three Scanesi brotherhoods (Archconfraternity of Santa Croce,
Confraternita del Rosario, Confraternity of Souls) join together for the preparation of processions and religious
ceremonies. The celebrations of theHoly Week draw their origin mainly from the rites dating back to the 600:
Many of the liturgies, in fact, are celebrated according to ancient ceremonies of medieval ancestry. Friday is the
most evocative day of Holy Week: at sunset the ceremony of “s’iscravamentu” takes place during which the 4
“sos discipulos” place Christ from the cros.
