Most of the fishing boats work 3 days per week instead of 5. The freshly-caught fish has sold at a very expensive prince. After 90's the number of the merchant fleet has been reduced rapidly. It's sad thinking that just few years ago the port of San Benedetto del Tronto was a pride of the Italian navy. Nowadays few young people decide to start working in this strategic sector because of the low and poor salaries despite the really hard work. The European restrictions and rules, designed for the oceanic fleet in the Atlantic ocean, are not suitable for the Italian market and its characteristics. The hight diesel prices, without a specific and protective regulation, will determine the end and the bankruptcy of more than 2800 family buisenesses. Nowadays the health of the sea is more important : too much plastic is in the sea and these "green" and moder fishermen pay attention to the environmental impact: recovering a huge quantity of plastics waste by their nets.
