Fishermen and fish trade in Zanzibar

Fishing is a major source of wealth and employment on the island of Zanzibar. It has been practiced in the same way for centuries, using traditional Zanzibari boats, known as Dhows. The fishermen go out with their Dhows every afternoon, returning at dawn the next day after a night of fishing. Some people, walking in the shallow waters, carry fish from the boats to the shore and hand them over to merchants, to be immediately sold
