"La Curva de los Gallegos"

ARDE LA NIEBLA.
(“La Curva de los Gallegos”)

El Puerto de Orduña (Bizkaia), a road located just 15 kilometers from the author's house, is considered a road black spot and among its many sections the one known as “La Curva de los Gallegos” stands out.
This place receives its nickname from the event that occurred on July 24, 1962, when the minibus that was transporting the Compostela Orchestra to the concert that it was going to give at the Casa de Galiza in Bilbao, left the road on the first curve of the Puerto de Orduña and fell off the cliff two hundred meters into the void, claiming the lives of four of its members. The dense fog that always bathes the Port of Orduña was the main cause of this tragedy.
“Arde la Niebla” is a project that documents said space, the remains of the accident that still remain in the place and the surrounding places. A photographic work that speaks of memory, grief, fear, the energy of spaces and the road as a metaphor for life. A project in which two peoples, the Basque and the Galician, meet by accident, like those days in 1962. An essay in which the author finally manages to face one of his greatest fears: the road and traffic accidents.
This work serves as a tribute to those who died on the roads and, especially, to Juan Fernández Barros, Paulino Prado, José Casal Brea and Jesús Sánchez Picón, members who died in the Compostela Orchestra accident.
