Ancient rites in Sicily
Good Friday
It happens during a procession, one of the most important in memory of the Passion of Christ, over 3000 hooded friars belonging to 16 brotherhoods carry the fercoli of the dead Christ and of Our Lady of Sorrows, to the tune of various funeral marches.
The brothers, following the notes of the funeral marches sung by the bands, begin their journey with the suggestive "step", an orderly walk, precisely at the pace, which creates a characteristic swaying of the two fercoli, almost to reproduce the pain and difficulty of the I walk.
The first Enna brotherhoods were formed in the late Middle Ages (1261 AD) but proliferated under Spanish domination in Sicily from the 15th to the 18th century.
And so that drama-theatre of life, aroused in you bitterness for the times that were and lightness of today.
