My Beloved
“My Beloved” is a reflection on death and what precedes it. The project was developed in a hospice, a health facility where the suffering of terminally ill patients is alleviated. There I felt the need to explore what I perceived inside and around me, in an emotional atmosphere generated by the solitude of the rooms, by smells and sounds, by the lights disconnected from the natural alternation of day and night. It has been growing in me the awareness of being in an incomprehensible territory, if not in its physiological mechanics. The transition between life and death is central to human experience and is constitutive of much philosophical speculation and religious creeds, which seek to bring back into the limits of cognition a pain that transcends it. The reality of deaths takes place in a few moments and is unavoidable as well as inexplicable. So I wanted to pay homage to the body in its details, particular and universal, the only certain and present datum in those moments.
