From the shadows to the light

The series portrays FARC guerrilla fighters in Colombia as they prepared to abandon their clandestine lives to enter civilian life after the peace agreement signed on November 24, 2016.

Never before Colombia has been as far in building peace. On November 24, 2016, the Colombian government and the FARC-EP guerrilla signed a peace agreement that ended with a 53 years-old war. Seven months later, the FARC-EP guerrilla finished to hand over their weapons.
The series was made between September 2016 and February 2017, just before the laying down of weapons. It is inspired by the chiaroscuro style of the painter Caravaggio. The series is a trial to figure the transition of the fighters from the shadows to the light, from their past clandestine life to a civilian commitment while their singularities are shaping after years in an army under a stringent military discipline.
It gives a specific focus on the FARC female fighters. There were around 35% of female fighters inside the insurgent army, consisting of around 10,000 people.
Now, the territories of Colombia are threatened by the old patterns that have fed the war for decades. Political assassinations, uncontrolled use of land resources, cocaine production, lack of state commitment in the countryside, continue to disfigure and jeopardize the future of the country. As Colombia'plunge further and further into a state of war each day, the series showcases those who have sought that hard-to-grasp peace.
