They take the floor

Overcoming gender violence by Burmese migrant

“They take the floor” aims to talk about gender violence representing women, not as victims. We tell the stories of women who have seen horror, but we do not represent them as merely victims. Rather, they are heroes who are overcoming deep pain and hardship that they did not deserve. Heroes who are now standing up to encourage others to be able to do the same. We bring to light the fight of immigrant women who have come out of domestic violence in the South-East Asia which has the 2nd highest rate of gender-based violence in the world.

We focus on the resilience of these women who found a way to hold on to hope and discover their strength to walk forward in life and create a better tomorrow even in the face of evil and sorrow. This project portrays them as role models, for those who are trapped in the same situation. To give others hope for change.

These four women: Naw Aye, Hayma Wa, Daw Khin Maw and her daughter Khin Myat Mon, Myanmar women of different generations all taking refuge in western Thailand are ready to “Take the floor.”

Hear them now.
