Yemen; Proxy War Turmoil
After six years of war in Yemen, the people of Yemen are desperate for peace.
As Yemen drifts toward its sixth year of conflict, the decades-long political sparring between Saudi Arabia and Iran is now played out through Yemen in a drawn out proxy war. The western governments involved, spurned on by billions of dollars in profit gained by propping up this now-sophisticated Saudi-led coalition force, are now scaling back on humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people and the impetus for a peace settlement is not a top priority.
Widely referred to as 'the world’s worst humanitarian crisis' and with starvation very a real threat in 2021 for millions coupled with growing COVID-19 numbers, the next chapter of this tragic story looks bleak.
The photographer has made four trips to Yemen since 2017 including 6 weeks on the ground during November and December of 2020. Photographed for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)
