Fishing for plastic

Over 150 million tonnes of plastic have already been poured into the World's Seas, of which over one million tonnes in the Mediterranean Sea. Italy is among the three top countries that pollute more this area of the Sea, with over 90 tonnes poured every day (WWF report). Reliable studies show that by 2050 the Oceans could be inhabited more by plastic than fish, estimating that they will contain at least 937 million tonnes of plastic compared to 895 million tonnes of fish. The objects represented were fished from the seabed of the Adriatic Sea by San Benedetto del Tronto navy through the “Fishing for plastic" initiative. The whole fleet of 40 fishing vessels and over 100 fishermen (the largest ever engaged in Italy for fishing activity aimed at combating sea pollution) collected more than 24 tonnes of waste in only 7 months.
