The Ganges, India's holy river, intimately affects and guides people's life in a fascinating mix of deeply heartfelt rituals, religion and traditions
Varanasi, India. The combination of India's holy city and holy river offers a sequence of dramatic, touching and overwhelming images; 24 hours a day, all year round. Within the chaotic, polluted and puzzling city the mix of rituals, religious beliefs and ceremonial traditions wraps everything in a very spiritual atmosphere. The muddy, warm and dirty waters of the Ganges are for many pilgrims the goal and destination of a once-in-a-lifetime long trip. Seeing people drinking these waters, collecting them , swimming in the river and burning their departed relatives on its banks generates an emotion in the eyes and heart of any observer.
