People First (Milan, 2 March 2019)

It was the largest anti-racist demonstration in Italy. In Milan. Simple, unstructured. The symbols of the parties, if there were any, were lost in the flood of colors, flags of associations. No stage in Piazza Duomo, no final rally. Songs, dance behind the wagons. Many, many young and old, boys and children.

The subject of my shots became those people, that human river that walked from the "right" side of the road. The more the means to communicate grow, the more the content decreases. Everything ends in gestures without a message. Photography is a strong and privileged form of communication. And I would always like it greedy for content and full of messages. They often ask me: "You photographers?" Let's say that I reproduce. With the strong privilege that photography grants: the power to evoke and not only to document. Photography, on this occasion, as a work of discovery, as an expression of a journey, as a fruitful dialogue with reality and with the thousands of sensations that arise and settle.
