Sápmi
The title of this project is Sápmi. "Sápmi" (Sami language) is the name of a region located in northern Europe, which stretches over four countries (Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia) and is usually known as Lapland.
The pictures of this project were taken in the finnish part of Lapland during a road trip. The main theme of the project is the way of seeing this land by an outsider as I was (am). I tried to take pictures of things, which are higly stereotyped (as reindeers for example) and to represent them in a way that was as little stereotyped as possibile.
My questions were: What can we really see by joining a new culture for a short time? On what can we put our focus (even in photography)? What do we take home with us (feelings, pictures, smells,...)?
