Anesthesia

This project is an emotional reportage.
It originated when coming to the realisation that a loss of sensitivity is a loss of connection with Life.
It is dedicated to anyone who might have also chosen to walk the path of numbness.
Thank you, Anesthesia, but, to me, denying my sensitivity no longer makes sense.

~

A cold, aseptic atmosphere, where skin and objects are always surronded by greyness.
An apathetic existence.
Someone who does not feel, escapes from life’s intensity.
Someone who does not feel, saves tears, avoids pain.
But someone who does not feel, also loses the ability to cry for joy or beauty.
Nothing touches this person.

Drowned screams turned into images. In them, powerful stimuli and symbols coexist with a numb sensitivity, which is yearned for just as much as it is feared.

This tension results an invitation to consider this protection from pain as a new threat: of another pain, of isolation, of solitude.

An approach on this self-induced emotional anesthesia from a visual and poetic language which translates inner conflicts, depression, the burden of expectations and family affairs into physical sensations and different object constellations.

Recognising it, playing with it, trying to represent it, looking for its beauty and seeing it in it’s absurdity is essential to get beyond it.
