Bärenplatzt is a square located in Bern, right in front of the Swiss Federal Palace. Here, in the very Heart of Switzerland, chess Players compete every day against each other. They come from many different countries in Europe and beyond: Cyprus, Italy, Kosovo, Albania, Poland, Chechnya and obviously Switzerland. They do not all speak German but every single one understands the language of chess perfectly. Along with their chess skills, each player brings along a unique, sometimes very sad story: some have fled wars, some are unemployed, for others personal relationships went wrong. Whatever difficulties they may be facing in life, a chess match is a moment to forget everything and just focus on the next move…
