THE GOLDEN VILLAGE

Nyakavangala is a remote village in the center of the state of Tanzania, at about 70 km from the city of Iringa, capital of the homonymous region. The inhabitants live in extremely precarious conditions, inside mud houses, without water or electricity. There is no trace of the real localization on any map, and very few news or documents about it can be found in texts or on the web.

It's a place that exists only for those who live there but It’s unknown to the rest of the world.

In the last year, deposits of gold and precious stones have been found in the surrounding areas. The "Gold rush" has led many to reach the site, including large organizations.

So the population has grown from 500 to about 3000 inhabitants (sources of the place). Hundreds of men, including those of the village, were hired to be employed as miners. The "mole men" work without rest inside tunnels that reach 30 meters deep; often without protection and without any measure of security, at risk of life, in exchange for a miserable pay or percentage on finds.

This caused a radical change in the activities and in the life of the inhabitants of the village making them dependent on the mine.
