SYNET

For Besnik, a Macedonian boy of 8 years of Albanian ethnicity and Muslim religion, Synet's ceremony, the circumcision in the Albanian language, is one of the most important events of his life.

The ceremony takes place in a village near the Macedonian town of Struga, located on the border with Albania, with a substantial and well-established Muslim community of ethnic Albanian.

The photos document the symbolic and most significant moments of the Synet's day.

With this work I tried to highlight the emotions of the child and the feelings of the family, starting to dress in formal clothes in the paternal house and ending with the courtesy visit of the men after the circumcision. The meeting of men and women's dances and sings, often separated during the day, anticipate the final dinner that will be held in a restaurant
