Kumbh Mela

Over the last 30 years I have visited India several times and have worked there as a volunteer for about six months. During my travels I have deepened my knowledge of Indian culture in all its facets. The Kumbh Mela is an important part of my experience in this country. An estimated 120 million people visited Maha Kumbh Mela in 2013 in Allahabad over a two-month period, including over 30 million on a single day, on 10 February 2013. I was one of them.

It is difficult to describe in a few words what this feast means and what its symbolic and religious implications are. For this I refer to the literature.

I had the opportunity to participate in Allahbad in 2013 at the Khumba Mela, which is the largest religious gathering in the world.

I was able to take advantage of the friendship with several Sadhu and then get in direct contact with them without problems, because sometimes they are very shy or require money to be photographed.

Without this friendship I would not have been able to access the interior of the temple and the places reserved for them for lunches and preparation for the procession and document.

The local press is not allowed to enter these places either.

The photos presented are a minimal part of the entire reportage.
