The Rural Montenegro

My project aims to show what hides behind the touristic façade of Montenegro, presenting its countryside. I have decided to focus on such context as it is generally forgotten by the plethora of foreign travelers that visit the country every day. Essentially, the main subjects of the photos are the people I met along my path (the one with horse functions as an introduction). The content of the photos varies from shepherds taking care of their animals to owners of little cafés, passing by merchants and road-sellers. I have imprinted my reportage on people as I think they represent the best way for describing what I perceived during my journey: a sense of dignity and hospitality that not always is able to win the evils of misery.

A brief description of each photo:

1. A horse browsing at sunset.

2. A shepherd taking care of his sheep.

3. A farmer preparing coffee for his guest.

4. The same farmer of the previous photo rests on his armchair.

5. The owner of a small café celebrates the arrival of a foreign visitor by drinking a local spirit.

6. A farmer feeds his cats in the courtyard of his home.

7. The owner of a café drinking beers and smoking with his friend.

8. A merchant rests in the early morning, drinking coffee and waiting for the arrival of new customers.

9. A road-vendor selling figs in the trunk of his car.

10. A farmer resting in the back of his home.
