Intelligence nourishes

Malnutrition does not make the news! It does not lead to “gripping headlines” but acts slowly and silently. It hinders the physical development of children, puts their intellectual capabilities at risk and weakens their immune systems. It turns healthy children into future, unproductive citizens who will find it enormously difficult to contribute to the development of their countries.

A great deal of patience is needed to overcome malnutrition. It is not like surgery where, one hopes, healing happens soon after, but more like a complex operation that not only involves the specialist but an integrated approach addressed by various professionals.

The Tanzanian government, supported by NGOs and international funding, is committed to setting up a virtuous cycle of community and hospital work in the Iringa district with the aim of tackling childhood malnutrition.
