Away, at Home
In a south western corner of Rome, called Tor Pignattara, live the largest Bangladeshis community on continental Europe which can be compared, in its uniqueness, to the historical Bangladeshi population that resides in the East London borough of Tower Hamlets
For over five years, that is, since living in this district I have become increasingly fascinated by the sights, sounds, smells and language of my co-inhabitants, and concurrently have been made aware slowly but surely how intense and indissoluble the bond of my fellow Bangladeshi citizens is with their homeland.
For me this has become an exciting daily journey.
The sense of identity that the Bangladeshis try to preserve is a poignant reminder of the connection between cultural identity and ones native environment.
