Non solo mafia

Since year 2000 the Social Cooperative “Lavoro E Non Solo” manages estates and farmlands seized to Cosa Nostra in Corleone, Monreale and Canicattì.

The Cooperative was borne from a social project by Arci Sicilia, and since 2005 has been promoting “Legality Camps” thanks to which thousands of young volunteers coming from all Italian Regions have been the opportunity to have an experience of social commitment and personal growth.

Beside to the volunteers the Cooperative can take account on the work done by the migrants taking part of the Project D.R.A.G.O. (Developement Resources Agricultural Growth Organic) aimed to combine an agrarian employment together with educational and training initiatives.

The participants to the Legality Camps are required to work in the fields in the morning, and to participate to educational sessions about mafia in the afternoon, together with visits to locations which have become symbols of the struggle against Cosa Nostra.

The visit to Portella della Ginestra (where took place the mafia massacre on 1st May 1947), the meeting with the last survivor of the massacre (who was a child at the time but has a vivid memory of that fatal day), the visit to Via D’Amelio in Palermo, where judge Borsellino was killed, and the act of hanging up a note to the Borsellino tree represent some moments of positive contribution to the diffusion of the culture for legality, as much as harvesting in the fields seized to Cosa Nostra.

For all these boys and girls Corleone will recall legality and commitment, no longer mafia.
