Project Info

no soy turista soy extranjero

For the last three years I've been wandering through Glarus with my camera at night, looking for my identity, an almost obsessive drive. Inspired through my very familiar surroundings, I use them to meet NightPeople searching for company, for belonging, security, or simply for love—moments in which I feel both foreign and familiar. I photograph more for expression than to capture something.

What is identity? What or who determines identity? Am I a guest here, who arrived in Glarus when I was born? A guest in my life?

These are the questions that I've been preoccupied with as a foreigner since my childhood. These important questions to me were the building blocks for the project “No soy Turista soy Extranjero” and, over the years, they have shaped me into the person I am today.

“No soy Turista soy Extranjero” has now reached a point where I can take a step back / make a pause / take a break and present a small selection of the pictures / images / photographs (I've developed so far) to the public.

The project will continue, just as new projects will begin / be added.

Photography is inexhaustible to me, precisely through the close contact I develop / construct / create and search / look for in my motifs / themes. This connectivity / connection is very important to me when photographing.

New encounters, with unfamiliar situations, people and cultures, which I deliberately search for, nourish my drive / urge to research with my camera, to see and integrate it as part of my life.

I photograph exclusively analog, since analog isn't perfect. Just as life isn't always perfect. I usually only make one single photo in a month, because the second time, the situation loses its magic and becomes artificial to me.

From the film developing to the finished large format pictures, I do everything single-handedly—a process that's an important part of my work. I want to be present when the picture / image appears on paper. This way I have the control from A to Z and everything comes from me.
