Walls Vodka Lies

Throughout my work, issues of righteousness, socio-cultural mechanisms and the (in)ability of people to control their own lives play a central role. I am fascinated by the influence of physical surroundings on people’s chances in life.

Warsaw, Brzeskastreet: The backside of the emerging district of Praga.

After the war, many buildings were nationalized by the communist regime in Poland . By actuation of a law called "Property restitution" nowadays many buildings have been claimed by descendants of the (reportedly mostly Jewish) previous owners.

The new owners want to transform their new property into money and often sell their rights to real estate developers with a questionable reputation. They want to get rid of tenants by huge increases of the the rent. (Sometimes it three times in a year, an increase of 100 %)

People who already live here for generations are burdened by this extremely rising rents, demolition, speculation and a disinterested government.

Their new neighbours are junkies and homeless. The inner spaces are the common domain of these groups. What will their chances be to escape this situation?
