NOT ONLY BOKO HARAM
Glimpses of life at the Sacred Heart Villa School in Enyogugu, Nigeria. The Sisters the Sacred Heart of Jesus run a school with over 1,000 students from nursery to high-school, including boarding for 100 girls who otherwise would not be able to study. Classes are very crowded, as no student who applies is refused enrollment. Only those who can afford pay a modest school fee. On Fridays, the high-school students, who are 90% girls, spend the last hour before the lunch break dancing. The girls of the boarding school take turn to hand wash their laundry and spend their free time playing, singing and doing sport. There is no electricity at night, so they must be ready for bed just before dark. This photo series aims to show a face of Nigeria ignored by the international media: happy despite the poverty, limited electricity and limited running water, eager to learn and enjoying life through sports, music and dance.
