Childhood behind bars - imprisoned in the prison Kampiringisa (Uganda)

Kampiringisa is the dreaded place, with the parents in Uganda are threatening their children if they do not want to hear. The children in prison is a few kilometers from the capital Kampala. There about 300 children are imprisoned. They are between two and eighteen years old. The majority of them are street children, brought-forth here by the police, as well as children who have been given mainly by their stepmothers from dubious reasons in the prison and not picked up. So most have to stay in Kampiringisa up to 18 years. There is no court which decides on the detention, no formal process. The local living conditions are bad, it lacks everything: food, hygiene, clothing, schooling and perhaps most important: affection, love and future prospects.
