Hotel Splendid

“Hotel Splendid” is not just a place, but a flowing stream of sensations and feelings. Fourtyfour African refugees don’t tell their own stories; rather, they observe, they meditate, and are frighten. Thrown into an unknown reality, they lie as prisoners in a space-temporal limbo.
In an absent present, far away from their homeland, imagination and dream become the safest way to find relief from passed suffering.
However imagination and dream represent the most auto-destructive impulse of mankind, and from safe refuge they turn into a flame fueling the most painful memory and the darkest nightmare.
In a seesawing imaginary dimension the only sureness is an unknown future.

Description on the project:

The project Hotel Splendid it's part of a wider vision who is focused to tell stories about travelling migrants from Africa to Europe. However the aim it's not to limit to a description of the migration itself but to begin a journey in the deep and spiritual dimension of these men.
In english language is possible to discern the term History from Story because with the first word you mean a real historic fact and documentable, with the other term an imaginative narration.
My narrative project is born from an historic content to an imaginative story. In specific, from the condition of the Hotel Splendid refugees and the interaction with them was born with a relation made by sensations.
The attention was given to a man in his total being, who doesn't only feel but imagines, dream and communicates.
In the description of the project I avoid on purpose to give a detailed explanation of the pictures and the succession because the lectures keys are many and subjective. Photography and in general the pictures are characterized from a semantic relativism because the cognitive mechanism and emotions in the elaboration of the meaning of a picture are different from person to person.
The work here presented it was realized from November 2014 and it's still ongoing.
