Raphaƫl Pasquini
Merry Christmas
In 2012, 2013 and 2014, Raphael Pasquini explored several facets of the Christmas period in the city of Lausanne. This approach takes place in a tripartite work, including a "sporting" component, perhaps the most unexpected (Midnight Run, the running of Santa Claus), a "consumer" component (night openings of stores), and a "religious" component (the portrait of a clergyman during the midnight worship at the Cathedral). Three ways of approaching Christmas, which show the omnipresent and polymorphic nature of the celebration. December is bathed in Christmas, but do we have time to think about it ? Besides the documentary aspect, the work of Raphael Pasquini creates a space for reflection on the meaning that we give at Christmas, on how to prepare for, and on the choices everyone does. Without ranking behaviors, this photographic work allows to reclaim about a posture of subject, that the urgency of the end of the year sometimes take away.
