D10,D11

Giammarco is a worker for a specialized firm in the creation of tetrapods for the harbor. One evening on November 2006, while he was working on the yard, he was crushed under the weight of an iron gate of 600 kilos.

The fracture of two vertebras, the D10 and D11, took him away the possibility of walking forever.

He is 37, an enthusiastic footballer and a fanatic supporter of Rome team. He has got a nice family: his wife Sabrina and his two children, Mirko 7 and Mara 1.

His body ,that was powerful and impudent in his youth, has changed now ,it is painful, unrecognizable, unable to almost everything.

He went so far as to surrender definitely but at the end he chose to live and to be born again.

In 2013, in Italy nearly 460 work accidents were recognized. The verified deaths at work have been 660 but if we consider those that do not appear on statistics, it will exceed 1100.

Giammarco’s story is a warning but also a hope.

Giammarco e’ un operaio di una ditta specializzata nella realizzazione di tetrapodi per il porto.
Una sera di novembre del 2006, mentre lavora in cantiere, rimane schiacciato sotto il peso di un cancello di 600 chili.
La frattura di due vertebre, la D10 e D11, gli toglie per sempre la possibilità di camminare.
Ha 37 anni, e’ un appassionato calciatore, un tifoso sfegatato della Roma. Ha una bella famiglia: Sabrina, la moglie e i figli Mirko di 7anni e Mara di 1 anno.
Il corpo che prima appariva sfrontato nella sua giovinezza e potenza è ormai cambiato, dolente, irriconoscibile, incapace di tutto o quasi....
Giammarco e’ arrivato in un mondo parallelo dove si può definitivamente soccombere o rinascere. Lui ha scelto di rinascere.
Nel 2013, in Italia, sono stati riconosciuti circa 460 mila infortuni sul lavoro. Le morti accertate sul lavoro sono state 660, ma se si considerano i morti sul lavoro di categorie con assicurazioni diverse dall'INAIL, che non appaiono mai nelle statistiche, si superano i 1100 morti.
La storia di Giammarco è un monito ma anche una speranza.
