Top of Europe

A few years ago, it was called the "Roof of Europe". Today, the Jungfraujoch has become a trademark - "Top of Europe" - which now welcomes experienced athletes and tourists in sandals. First of all, "Top of Europe" is a story of numbers : 3471 meters high. An annual temperature average of 7.2 degrees Celsius. 7 kilometers of cogwheel train to get there. 765,000 visitors in 2012. 150 Euros for a round trip. "Top of Europe" is a kind of history too. A saddle between the Jungfrau and the Mönch. A place of vertigo : out of sight, snow, mountains, glaciers. "Top of Europe" is also a history of staging. Asian restaurants, typical swiss souvenirs shops, 3D movies, ice sculptures, a heroic historical reconstruction of the building of the train. Amazement and weariness of a people who eat nuddle soups filming location deemed inaccessible.

Raphael Pasquini works on social subjects in a documentary perspective. The projet he presents at LuganoPhotoDays is called « Top of Europe », a photo coverage of the asian tourism in the Jungfraujoch, the most famous mountain in Switzerland.
