Balkan Express
Reading a short story by Paul Rumiz, inspired me to reach Istanbul by train.
One day, in late January, I took my camera, the backpack and without any booking I started my journey from Venice to Istanbul.
A small kind of adventure through the Balkans, places where I never was before.
I went to Trieste by train, then by bus, up to Ljubljana.
The day after, to Belgrade by train.
Then, at night, the train to Sofia
And finally another night train, the Balkan Express, which led me to Istanbul.
Cold, continuous snow storms, looking for a hotel, talking to strangers in smoky bars,
meeting people and enter in their homes, or just for a few moments in their lives.
This is the photographic story of what I saw through the dirty windows of the trains, what I meet on the streets, and lived inside homes.
