PHOTOGRAPHS ABOUT COMMEMORATION OF 1994 GENOCIDE IN RWANDA

Shooting the activities of commemoration of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, has been my aim to show the world what happened in Rwanda so as to prevent it elsewhere in World.

More one million lives lost in Genocide and thousands of widowers,orphans remained homeless,hopeless for their future. Tutsi were distressed before being killed,systematic rape,sexual mutilation,humiliation and human abuse. The death was made a painful,agonizing,frightening and humiliating end.

Three Photos submitted are so meaningful to tell the story of Genocide of 1994.

1. Photo of a common hole wherein bodies of Tutsi used to be taken after being killed.Around the hole there are some people,mainly the survivors who come to commemorate 20 years later. This hole is in Kinazi Sector,Ruhango District, South Province in Rwanda. In 1994, this hole was nicknamed "CND" around 4.000 Tutsi were reported to be flown in this hole.

2. Photo that I name "Night of rememberance" shows the youth standing around the wood fire, as a symbol of rememberance accordingly to rwandan culture. The youth (orphans of the genocide) were telling the story of the way their parents lived with them, making them spoil, buying them something and so on. they were recalling how their childhood was with their parents. With this activity of calling the name of the killed ones, many survivors got traumatised. The Trauma was at the high level.

3.Photo of women sitting ,holding the candles is so significant to the commemoration. These women are the widowers of 1994 Genocide. they are now grouped in AVEGA (Association des Veuve Rescapees du Genocide.) They were sitting the whole night just to remember the victims,their former late husbands,their late kids, their relatives ,all who perished in 1994 Genocide.
