Unseen Face
The fearful reality that this tiny, invisible virus has abruptly created, may be the final destination of our underlying problems that were already rushing towards the edge of a precipice. Through this pandemic, the world around us and the reality that we have been disregarding so far, have been completely revealed.
Intangible defense mechanisms such as vigilance, division, discrimination, and hatred have now gained a legitimate justification while hiding behind a safety device called a mask. The social and psychological distance brought by a thin mask was easily replaced with new virtues: non-face-to-face, non-contact, and A New Normal.
For a while now, we have already been putting on invisible masks. The absence or disconnection of communication, deep-rooted prejudice, and hatred, that were underlying throughout an entire society, were merely pushed to the surface by Covid-19.
We are now paying an abysmal debt for neglecting these unseeable things that have been dictating our lives.
The naked truth of reality is invisible but must be faced. The expressionless faces covered by masks have become our representative portrait of this era.
