Oakland and Ozzie
A mother and her son walking in the Budongo Forest
24 mammal species live in this forest, 9 of them are primates. Eastern chimpanzees are endangered, as their home range is replaced every day by new agriculture fields.
This is a portrait of wild chimpanzees, leaving in the Budongo Forest. Oakland, a 20 years old mother at the time, looks straight at me while approaching. Her son, Ozzie, was 2 years old. She was the youngest mother of her community and had a difficult time with higher ranking males and females, but she managed to survive and rise her first offspring.
These animals are the most beautiful thing I ever got to observe in the wild, because of their similarities and differences they share with us, humans.
