The animals were beautiful

'The animals were beautiful', a series of haunting and ethereal portraits of strangers travelling on the London Underground. The series depicts the people, reflections, poetry and abstractions of subterranean London life. The title is in reference to a quote by Bruce Davidson about his own 'Subway' series and shooting in New York on his doorstep - he "didn’t need to go to the Serengeti plains, the animals were right here and they were beautiful”. Two images from this series have recently been shortlisted in the Mobile One Shot Category at the forthcoming Kolga Tbilisi Photo Awards.
