Kumbh Mela 2016 Ujjain India

This set of portraits were taken at the Kumbh Mela Festival 2016. It is the biggest spiritual gathering in the world, and is held every 12 years in four different locations along the River Ganges. The exact date is determined according to a combination of zodiac positions of the planets Jupiter, the Sun and the Moon. The Kumbh Mela attracts 100 million Hindu Pilgrims over the month, sometimes reaching numbers of 10 million pilgrims a day, to bath in the Holy waters to cleanse their Karma and sins in this life and past lives. Within the hoards of devotes I found some quiet moments to capture individuals during the festival, these include pilgrims, vendors and Sadhus who have come from all corners of India and some from around the world to peacefully gather together.
