Andhabishwas
Andhabishwas, which translates to “blind faith” in English but actually means superstition in Nepali, is a project focusing on a village development community (VDC) in Nepal called Arupokhari. Located less than 40 kilometres south of Barpak, the epicenter of the April 2015 earthquake, the residents of Arupokhari have faced a number of problems over the past year, such as a lack of housing & food, health issues, water scarcity and abandonment.
This project looks at the traditional kinds of superstition in the VDC, as well as individual people's blind faith(s) that have arisen following the earthquake, especially in relation to health issues and the lack of support from foreigners and their fellow countrymen. By focusing more on traditional medicine and the blind faith people have towards healing- whether it's physical, mental, emotional or spiritual-, I also hope to bring forward some of the other issues that have been neglected by foreign aid workers in a community that was almost wiped off the map.
These eight images are from a much larger ongoing project which I aim to complete at the beginning of 2017.
