Un’idea di musica - An Idea of Music

Per diversi anni ho fotografato i musicisti che si esibivano durante i concerti jazz, cercando di far trapelare una traccia delle loro melodie e dei loro ritmi nelle mie immagini.

Per altrettanti anni ho fatto una ricerca fotografica sull’elemento dell’acqua, in tutte le sue forme e variazioni, cimentandomi in esperimenti sia astratti che concreti.

Un’immagine può essere strutturata partendo dagli stessi concetti che caratterizzano la musica: il susseguirsi ritmico delle linee, l’armonia dei colori, i contrasti e le ripetizioni. Si tratta di concetti estetici globali che si ritrovano anche in letteratura e nell’arte in generale, ma che in realtà l’uomo ha copiato dalla natura.

In questo progetto ho accostato le mie due ricerche mettendole a confronto. Le immagini vanno guardate e interpretate a coppie (Voce-Eco; Sassofono in pausa-Acqua quasi quieta; Contrabbasso-Cascando; Ritmo rinato-Onda infranta), tuttavia potrebbero anche essere riunite in due gruppi di quattro, dove un gruppo costituisce il quartetto musicale (voce, sassofono, contrabbasso e batteria), mentre la controparte rispecchia attraverso l'acqua il ciclo delle 4 stagioni.

For several years, I have pictured musicians performing during their concerts, trying to capture a trace of their melodies and rhythms.

During several other years, I worked on the project of picturing water - one of the most fascinating elements for me - in all of its multiple forms and variations.

An image can be structured according to the same principles and concepts governing music: the rhythmic pattern of lines, the harmony of colors, the repetitions and contrasts. The same aesthetic conceptions can be found also in literature and art generally speaking; actually man has copied them from nature.

In my choice of pictures, I have melted both of my projects. There are 4 couples of images (Voce-Eco; Sassofono in pausa-Acqua quasi quieta; Contrabbasso-Cascando; Ritmo rinato-Onda infranta), although they might also be united in two groups, one of which is the musical quartet (voice, saxophone, contrabass, drums), whereas the other group pictures the seasonal cycle through water.
