DUE DONNE

Our series reflects the perspective of two women: One lives in Europe, one in Africa. We were born in the eighties. We both are research pharmacists and artists. We only met once in 2015 in Addis Ababa thanks to an advertisement from a photography contest. We have been working together now one year thanks to digital techniques. We use mixed methods: i-phone and digital cameras, crude and adapted images that were taken before we met.

We present 8 paired colour images reflecting a transition process. The exciting part is to wonder who did which image? The series enfolds a cycle of life, from birth of life by the water to death offering new places. It’s a delicate, participating and respectful look that is not afraid of similar differences.

Our message is a message to our generation called „Y“, to our parents and to our children how relative time and space is. We are documenting a societal change: „No nine, no ten.“ To say it with the words of Everyday Africa photographer Nana Kofi Acquah, one person often puts down the other, rather than searching for an excelling image, we present individually taken images that strengthen fundamental common values. Better being a tiny part of something bigger evolving, than something big and apparently completed as a part of a vane individual struggle among millions.
