Blurred Lines

Future human generations will likely look back and wonder how we managed to continue neglecting the science, history and politics of feeling and failed to better protect non-humans from ourselves. My series "Blurred Lines" aims to be a photographic invitation to self-reflection about humans as animals.

In this series I sought images that show how we relate to animals, how we treat them, how little the awareness that we humans are also animals is still present.
The title 'Blurred Lines' has several meanings. First of all, our vision is blurred by the hard lines we draw, we have little real contact with wild animals and likewise with all the animals we breed for consumption, work or entertainment. Moreover, the boundaries between humans and animals are blurring by research that increasingly shows that animals are both more cognitively and emotionally intelligent than we have previously thought. Bringing attention to this issue is somewhat controversial (hence the reference to the song "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams) and can easily be misunderstood, interpreted too black and white.
