THE PASSAGE
Living the faith during the Pandemic
In living memory, it was the first Easter in the world without faithful, behind closed doors. The decree of March 4,2020, ordered by the Italian Government in order to stop the spread of the infection from Covid-19 in Italy, rejected any possibility of celebrating masses, weddings, Eucharist or funerals. The Catholic Church has invited the faithful to pray exclusively at home personally or as a family.
Forty milions of people joined virtually during the Lent, creating a new community, renewing and reinterpreting the deeper meaning of its own spirituality. The belief and mercy of the Christians believers didn’t go into quarantine: home processions, solitary masses, shared prayers, the plenary indulgence granted by TV. These just some of the creative responses put in place by those who felt called, never as at that moment, to profess their faith.
