Isolation Island

A one year quarantine diary of our home

There are historical moments when the future changes direction. We call them bifurcations. Or deep crises. These times are now.
The world as we know it is dissolving. But behind it, a new world is forming, in a shape of which we can only guess.
I live in a shared house with 16 people. It feels like we‘re stranded on an island together. You only go to the unsafe waters surrounding this island to do the most urgent things.
This work started as a photographic quarantine diary in March 2020.
Since the closing of my school I started to document our cohabitation. Our house is located in the outskirts of Bern, not far from nature but also not far from the center of the city.
We are of different age, origin, gender and are active in different professions or still in formation. But we are all affected by this new situation. Desperation, boredom, overexcitement, overwhelm, recklessness, fear, loneliness, happiness: It is a strange mixture of feelings that this time of uncertainty brings with it.
