Postcards From Confinement

A remote photo project about writers living under lockdown and isolation in different corners of the world.

"Postcards from Confinement" is a series of remote portraits of writers from around the world. During the course of the pandemic, I invited writers from Latin America, the US, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to make their portrait through the computer, via a Zoom call. I then used a projector to cast the image onto different surfaces such as wood, vinyl, or cardboard. In an effort to capture the mood in the time of Covid-19, I utilized plexiglass, crystals, and even colored gels in order to show this new fragmented, slightly out of focus, and sometimes even pixelated reality we live in. Each photograph is accompanied by an original text by the authors in which they put into words their hopes and their fears from different corners of the world like Buenos Aires, Havana, Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Jerusalem, Bujumbura, Sulaymaniyah, New York, or Milan, just to name a few.
