3rd gender - disturbing beauty

gender identity occurred for me the first time 15 years ago through a friend of mine who was a cross dresser. Since then i always felt very close to that subject without being to conscious about it. 2 years ago i was looking for a project to photograph in vienna without traveling to much because i have a little son to take care of. So i found out about these transgender women who work as prostitutes in vienna quite frequently. I started to visit them which wasn't very easy in the beginning. Most of them were born in south america and they live in Spain or Portugal to travel and work throughout Europe. They stay for one week in one place, living, sleeping and working in tiny rooms without any social contacts besides the clients and the others prostitutes to whom they are not very popular. For me it was clear that the project wasn't supposed to make a statement about prostitution. I never encountered them as sex workers but with a lot of respect and admiration for what body they've chosen to live in. To find out more about this choice i started to learn spanish to communicate with them. In the future i'm going to work with a journalist who is supposed to help me with the narrative part of that project: the free choice of gender identity and what consequences you have to deal with from that.
