Unveiled Garage

One day I’ve walked in front of a garage near by my house, it was hidden in a backstreet, but I could see over a wall
that there was a sort of “car cemetery” and it instantly catched my interest. I’ve decided to use that location for a photographic project. I’ve spent three days at the garage, having a close look at the environament and the people who work in there; it's a car repair company specialised in old and rare cars. Each component of the team has a passion for mechanics, there were seven people, in total, working there, four of them in their late 50s, a young guy around 30 years old and two teenagers. I’ve always thuoght of mechanics as very dry and not much talkative people, but in that garage the mood was completely different, it was a vibrant and enjoyable place, everyone knew each other almost like a family, music was always playing while the seven men were working under the disco–mirror ball in the main room. I tried not to focus too much on the cars, but rather to spend more time looking for details and images which would show this side of the garage as well as a series of portraits.

The photographs were captured with a medium format camera (6 x 6 medium format coloured film).
The three pictures presented are part of a six images sequence.

Luca Iiriti (short bibiographic information)
I'm 21 years old, currently studying graphic design (BA Hons) at Central Saint Martins College, in London. I'm originally from Mezzovico, a small village near by Lugano, in the italian region of Switzerland. I've been studying graphic design at the CSIA in Lugano, obtaining my diploma in the subject. During this period of four years, (from 14–18 years old) I've been faced with the world of art and design, something in which I've always been interested, and discovered my passion for graphic design, and anything which can be related to this practice. After the CSIA, at 19 years old, I've decided to move to London to work with a graphic design studio (with a studio also in Lugano) and start my BA at Central Saint Martins. I'm currently approaching my last year of university.
